Air & Water Pollution is Making Us Vulnerable to Long-term Health Issues

A recent study showed that we are more susceptible to long-term health issues when exposed to air and water pollution.

About 70% of Earth’s surface is covered by our ocean water. Water within the ocean absorbs energy (heat) and CO2 steadily scatters it across the earth as its warms.

Finally, the atmosphere releases heat back into space so the planet can cool.

As we add carbon emissions, we are trapping heat in the atmosphere and not letting in cooler air.

The extra heat and CO2 within the ocean can change the environment for the plants and animals that live there.

Air Pollution

Air pollution has such serious health risks that, it is responsible for one-third of lung and heart disease, cancer, and even stroke. It also further complicates asthma.

Our mucous membranes, which help shield us from disease, can no longer take the amount of water and air pollution we inhale and eat. Consequently, breathing polluted air reduces the heart's ability to pump enough oxygen, triggering someone to broaden respiration disease. Those with heart disease who inhale air pollution can further get to heart attacks, arrhythmias, and even death.

As we add carbon emissions, we are trapping heat in the atmosphere and not letting in cooler air. If the air quality is poor, it will be dangerous to be outside in the future.

Water Pollution

The area of oceans and lakes is filled with pollution by filling them with toxic waste and litter. The oil spill withinside the Gulf of Mexico is making subjects worse, in addition to the increase in ocean acidification.

A good example of water pollution is that small strains of Salmonella can live in water for many months. Accordingly, similar harmful bacteria can also be found in the water that we drink. Additionally, we would find it in various food products that is in contact with the contaminated water.

When you are drinking water and exposed to chemicals within, this can result in several health issues---both short-term and long-term.

Chemical exposure at high concentrations can cause discoloration of the skin as well as more serious health complications such as damage to the nervous system or organs. Additionally, developmental, and reproductive impacts may arise.

Evidently, just being exposed to lower doses of contaminated water over a long period of time can result to perpetual, longer-term diseases such as cancer.

If the ocean temperature gets too high, then the plants and animals that live there may get sick and die. Furthermore, we may drink contaminated water as well as get diseases from the air we breathe.

Moreover, many communities have created laws to protect our environment, such as the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act the Pollution Prevention Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act.

We can solve our water and air quality by taking appropriate measures to protect our environment and greatly reduce the use of fossil fuels.
